What is a Liquidation Heatmap?

  • A heatmap shows where leveraged long and short positions are likely to be liquidated.
  • Colored clusters represent areas with high liquidation levels.
  • These zones often act like magnets, pulling price toward them.

Why Price Moves Toward Liquidation Zones

  • Market makers and large players push price into liquidity pools to trigger stop-losses and liquidations.
  • At these levels:
    • Short liquidations = buy pressure (shorts squeezed).
    • Long liquidations = sell pressure (longs squeezed).
  • Result: A liquidity grab before the market resumes its main trend.

How to Use a Heatmap

  • Spot Clusters: Dense zones act as strong magnets for price.
  • Look for Confluence: If liquidation clusters align with Support/Resistance or Fibonacci → very strong level.
  • Trap Detection: Price often sweeps liquidity first, then reverses in the true trend direction.

Trading Tips

  • Heatmaps are guides, not entry signals.
  • Expect liquidity sweeps followed by continuation.
  • Watch for liquidity gaps: areas with little liquidity can lead to sudden fast moves.

Limitations

  • Data is exchange-specific (Binance vs Bybit may show differences).
  • Short-term signals can be misleading.
  • Works best when combined with price action & indicators.

Advanced Strategies with Liquidation Heatmaps

Liquidity Grab Setup

  • Price moves into a liquidation cluster (longs or shorts).
  • A sharp wick sweeps the zone, triggering liquidations.
  • Price then quickly reverses in the opposite direction.
    Entry: After the sweep, enter opposite to the wick.
    Stop-Loss: Just outside the cluster.
    Target: Next support/resistance level.

Liquidity Magnet Setup

  • A large cluster builds at a clear level.
  • Price is often “pulled” toward this level like a magnet.
    Strategy: Anticipate a drift toward the cluster, but confirm with trend & volume.

Double-Sided Liquidity Trap

  • Clusters exist both above and below current price.
  • Market makers sweep one side (fake breakout) → trigger stops → then reverse to sweep the other side.
    Strategy: Wait for both sides to be cleared, then enter in the true trend direction.

Confluence with Other Tools

Heatmaps work best when combined with:

  • Support/Resistance: Cluster aligning with strong S/R = high-probability level.
  • Fibonacci Retracements: A 61.8% retracement + cluster = very strong zone.
  • Volume Spikes: Confirm if a real move is happening after the sweep.

Pro Tip

Use liquidation clusters as liquidity zones, not exact levels. Markets often overshoot zones before reversing. Always combine with confluence tools for higher accuracy
